Elegant, upscale decor, including pleasant outdoor seating. Flawless execution of Nikkei cuisine. Superb service. Pricey but no more so than others of similar quality in this genre.

Restaurant Review for Osaka

Osaka is a highly successful international restaurant chain that features a gourmet offering of Lima’s unique Nikkei cuisine, which is a fusion of Japanese, Chinese and traditional Peruvian styles and ingredients.

There is an Osaka restaurant in all major Latin American cities. We’ve visited the restaurant in four different cities and the quality of the experience is outstanding in each. Osaka in both Santiago and Buenos Aires, are among the top 5 restaurants in both cities.

Osaka is a large restaurant with a pleasant bar and lounge area and an outside terraza that is just as large as the interior dining space. The terraza has a pleasant exotic ambiance. The interior dining space is elegant and sophisticated. It’s is the nicest décor and ambiance of any of the Nikkei restaurants in the city, including Maido and Hanzo, which, in Lima, are the most similar in style to Osaka.

I sampled a variety of sushi offerings, ceviche, pot-stickers (gyoza) and barbecued pork belly in Osaka’s restaurant in San Isidro on a recent visit to Lima. Plating and presentation at Osaka is unequaled among the Nikkei restaurants in the city.

The quality of execution equaled the beautiful presentation. The fish was fresh, the rice in the maki and nigiri was the ideal consistency, the pot stickers were juicy, with a slight caramelization on the exterior, and the pork belly was succulent and heavenly delicious.

I sat at the sushi bar. Several waiters were attending this section of the restaurant and service was near-flawless, although it was not extremely busy on the afternoon I visited the restaurant.

Osaka, although expensive, is among the most consistent execution and service we’ve seen in Lima. Second to none in this genre. Certainly, no more expensive than Maido, and much easier to score a table. We easily made reservations using an online reservation system. Simple and effective.
