Summary of Review

This burger was good enough to make it into our list of top five burgers in Bogotá. But we preferred the burger at La Xarcutería to the one we received at Burger Kill. There’s no sham ein being a runner-up.

Restaurant Review for The Burgers at Burger Kill

Every city needs a counter-culture dive serving burgers to counter-balance the trendy restaurants offering fancy gourmet burgers topped with black truffle shavings and the like. Buenos Aires has Burger Joint. Mexico City has Mataleón. They’re messy, disorganized, irreverent. Some offer good burgers. Mataleón in Mexico City offers a great burger.

In Bogotá, that dive that sells burgers is Burger Kill. I won’t bore you with a colorful description of this small dive. The photos in the slider say it better than I could.

But I will describe the burger. A very thick beef patty, adequately seasoned, coarsely ground, and very, very loosely packed. In fact, we can’t quite figure out what they did to this burger. We deconstructed it. Some of the beef is seared. Some is not. It seems as if they constructed the patty after cooking the meat. But however, they did it is for the most part irrelevant. It tasted good. That’s what counts, right?

Juicy and flavorful. Adequately seasoned. Topped with fresh condiments, a frilly purple-leaf lettuce leaf and some ripe tomato slices. We thought we had ordered cheese, but alas, there was no cheese on the burger I received. Probably a miscommunication for which I will take the blame.

No table service at Burger Kill. Heck, they barely have tables. Order at the counter.

This burger was good enough to make it into our list of top five burgers in Bogotá. But we preferred the burger at La Xarcutería to the one we received at Burger Kill. There’s no sham ein being a runner-up.
