Summary of Review

A warm and pleasant ambiance, friendly, attentive service, and fabulous bread and other food items make Brot an excellent choice for breakfast or lunch. Or perhaps just enjoying a fresh-baked croissant and a frothy cappuccino.

Brot had three locations in Bogotá at the time of our review. We visited the location Calle 81. As the name implies, Brot is all all about the bread. Although it nicely provides a limited menu of breakfast, lunch items that utilize that great bread they bake fresh every day.

The ambiance at the Calle 81 location is extremely laid-back and pleasant. It’s just modern enough to give it that trendy café feel, but has enough natural wood and baskets to make it warm and inviting. I personally prefer the ambiance, to the more modern and sophisticated feel of Maison Kayser, two blocks away.

The service is attentive and waiters and waitresses are all friendly and accommodating.

They have Mexican chilaquiles on the menu and I was sort of having that tortilla chip craving so I decided to give them a try. The chilaquiles were a bit unique. The cheese on the corn tortilla chips was a blend of soft yellow cheese, onions and tomatoes. It looked a bit odd but was delicious. They also offer a full range of egg breakfasts, done the way you want it, fried or scrambled.

They served bread, butter and jam with the chilaquiles. The bread was slices of a fresh French baguette. It was as soft as a pillow inside, with a crisp crust and tasted fabulous with a little bit of that creamy butter and jam.

The coffee is high-quality. A mild 100% Colombian coffee, roasted by local specialty coffee-roasters Amor Perfecto.

A warm and pleasant ambiance, friendly, attentive service, and fabulous bread and other food items make Brot an excellent choice for breakfast or lunch. Or perhaps just enjoying a fresh-baked croissant and a frothy cappuccino.

A note. The WIFI wasn’t working the morning we visited for which gracious apologies were offered. We can’t comment on whether this is common occurrence. But our overall score reflects this omission.
