Restaurant Review for Vegan Bunker

If you love food like I do and you’re vegan or vegetarian, by choice or by necessity, you likely sometimes crave those things that the carnivores of the world can enjoy.

We recently embarked on a mission to make our site more relevant and enjoyable for vegans and vegetarians and will occasionally have features targeted directly at these diners.

This quest led me to Vegan Bunker, a restaurant dedicated to the vegan lifestyle and diet. Everything on the menu is suitable for vegans.

Located in the funky little Bohemian neighborhood of Barrio Italia, Vegan Bunker has one of those quirky, antique tea cup and teddy bear decors that are popular with almost everyone except Germans that are into heavy-metal music. So, you’ll likely find the place pleasant as non-dairy pudding. Service, although not sterling, was acceptable.

Vegan Bunker offers salads and sandwiches and a host of desserts that don’t utilize eggs or butter.

Vegan restaurants aren’t all that rare. But vegan restaurants that actually offer food that is unique and tasty are very rare, indeed. This little restaurant has found a way of making it into that special class of restaurants.

I tried the vegan burger recently and it was very good. Coming from a confirmed carnivore, that’s a big compliment.

Lots of people shy away from tofu. But the tofu sandwich options at vegan bunker are definitely worth a try.

They offer Zen Zero frozen treats and a host of baked desserts. Sometime soon, I’ll be back to try a dessert with a crust and we’ll let you know how it panned out. But based on the savory sandwiches this restaurant stands out from the crowd.

The best news of all is that all this veggie power comes with a price-tag that won’t break the melon bank. Sandwiches start at a better than reasonable US$2.25 (CLP$2.000).
