Summary

Better than average ambiance and pizza but not gourmet and nowhere near approaching memorable. They offer deep dish, but it’s not all that deep. Very average assortment of pizza variations. Miller lager, Miller Light and Warsteiner were the only choices for beer. Reasonable prices.

Restaurant Review for Mostacho's Pizza - Buenos Aires

Mustachos is located in a fairly typical space with a fairly typical façade. The décor inside is perhaps a little nicer than the average pizza parlor in Buenos Aires. There’s an exposed brick wall with lots of neatly arranged pizza memorabilia and Americana.

Paper placemats. Plastic coated menus. Paper napkins. Pleasant music, but nothing unique. The service was adequate but not especially attentive and no display of personality that makes a less formal night out more enjoyable. It was, in summary, one of those slightly above average restaurants.

What about the pizza? They offer both a thin crust and a “pizza al molde”, which is the Argentine way of saying “deep dish” pizza. Unlike Chicago-style deep dish they appear to use the same dough for the deep dish pizza as they do for the thin crust, just slightly thicker in the pan. I ordered deep dish and although it did have more toppings than your typical thin crust pizza in Buenos Aires is was nothing like the inch to inch and a half of goodies you find in a pizza at Pizzeria Uno in Chicago.

On my pizza there were lots of toppings. I ordered one with mozzarella, pancetta, onions and green olives, without marinara sauce. The mozzarella was of slightly above-average quality and I’d say the proportion of cheese to dough was about right, although probably somewhat lacking for a deep dish pizza, There were very thin slices of the ham and not much of it. Lots (and I mean lots) of onions. It seemed the thin onion slices might have been placed on the pizza near the end of the cooking process as they were not caramelized at all, yet they weren’t raw.

This pizza was good. I think it was much better than the average pizza at one of the bigger chains, but still way short of potential. There are better, although slightly more expensive options, with a better ambiance, higher quality ingredients and better beer and drink options, within a few blocks (e.g. ItalianGarlic, a couple of blocks away). Still, this one is not a bad choice for a less formal and less expensive night out for pizza. Oh. And they deliver. So for a delivered pizza this is likely one of the best, if not the best option, in Palermo Soho.
