Summary

Tastefully decorated restaurant with the stereotypical Porteño menu. What it lacks in creativity is more than made up for with excellent execution and service. One of Belgrano's top all-round restaurants.

Restaurant Review for La Casa de Adann - Buenos Aires

La Casa de Adann is a family-style restaurant in Belgrano on O’Higgins near La Pampa, perfectly located to cater to the affluent families living in the neighborhood. Almost anyone of any age would feel comfortable dining in the restaurant. Recently remodeled, it has a clean, stylish décor. Contemporary wood slat paneling along one wall and beautifully upholstered chairs are the main elements of style. Sophisticated, yet comfortable at the same time.

The waiters are clad in the stereotypical waiter attire ... white shirts, brown aprons and name tags. Nicolas was my waiter. Ask him a question. He has the answer. Conversational and friendly, taking the time to converse with each customer yet somehow staying on top of every table’s needs. And unlike many modern restaurants the food is delivered and served by the waiters at La Casa.

I was a bit skeptical about the food though. The menu was pretty much business as usual in Buenos Aires. Your typical assortment of pastas and steaks, pork and chicken. The only thing a little atypical about the menu was a rather large section dedicated to fish.

I took the waiter’s recommendation and ordered the Black Raviolis with a salmon filling and topped with shrimp in a creamy sauce. This, I believe, is their signature dish. And for good reason.

Almost every restaurateur in the city claims to serve homemade pasta. In most restaurants what that really means is that it is made in the home office location of some pasta factory. In essence it only mean that the pasta is not dry packaged pasta. I had sampled a couple of pretty fair pasta dishes at both ItalianGarlic and Odisea within the past few days and had stated that at both restaurants the pasta was a bit too al dente for my liking.

But this black ravioli was obviously fresh and homemade. Just like the porridge served to the Baby Bear in the children’s tale, The shrimp on top were perfectly cooked and the sauce was rich and delicious. This, I believe, was the best pasta dish I’ve tasted in all of Buenos Aires.

So what for dessert? The Tiramisu, of course. This one was reminiscent of the Tiramisu I was served at Primafila in Recoleta. The layer of cake had full absorbed lots of coffee. But unlike the Primafila dessert, this one had more of the sweet creamy mascarpone cream in the middle to slightly damper the strong coffee taste from the pastry portion of the dessert.

I had ordered a cafe con leche (a small latte coffee) and along with the coffee was served a plate full of tiny little nibbling morsels. One of the little delicacies was an orange sugar candy dipped in chocolate on one end. Alternating tiny bites of this little orange treat with the coffee created the perfect mix of flavors. I could have skipped the dessert and just had this little platter of sweet delights.

After eyeing that non-creative menu I was not expecting a great dining experience. But the truth of the matter is that the menu might be typical, but the manner in which they are prepared is not. The waiter offered information about their mid-day prix-fixe menu for only US$8 (ARS$180). You can read about

my day at lunch at La Casa de Adann right here.
